On top of the contextual research that I have discussed in previous posts, I have been doing much more research into what I have been terming the “data economy” that the high-concept of our Font device sits upon.

Just as miners flocked to the American West Coast in the mid-19th century in the pursuit of riches and a better life during the California Gold Rush, people and companies today are scrambling to collect and control what some, including Shivon Zilis of venture capitalist firm Bloomberg Beta, are referring as the new oil: data. There is a universal monetary incentive to use this data with emerging Artificial Intelligence technologies for purposes across industries.

The vision team at the Worth Global Style Network (WGSN) have referred to this scramble as the “Blue Rush” in their Automn/Winter 18/19 prediction release titled Dark Wonder;

Our font is a device that aims to capitalise on and personify this blue rush for data and AI. While I have explained in previous posts that we wish to provide a useful device, it is the collection of data and AI analysis that I feel is the bigger, hidden, “magical” half of the project.

AI strategy will be a key driver of growth and innovation for top companies, like online strategy has been in the past. Andrew Ng, chief scientist at Baidu Research, says, “AI is the new electricity …just as 100 years ago electricity transformed industry after industry, AI will now do the same.”
